I used to think like all of you. I used to think depression really wasnt that big a deal. Then I became clinically depressed. Suddenly it was a big deal. For those of you who have never stared at yourself in a mirror and tossed a coin to decide whether to just "end it", you cant possibly know what depression is.Like I say though, until youve experienced it, you could never really be expected to understand it. So by all means joke about it, but dont judge people for how they try to deal with it.
They should be trying to get you *off* disability by finding you a treatment. Too bad that by the sounds of it they spend more money on lawyers than funding medical research.
Just to be completely clear, my problem wasn't with the idea that these drugs should be avoided if possible, it was with the "scare tactic" that insinuates that these drugs cause suicide, and with the parent comment's blatant lack of knowledge having to do with depression and suicide. Although anti-depressants can cause suicidal thoughts, the medical studies consistently show that anti-depressants lower the risk of suicide, even for the age groups where the risk of suicide due to anti-depressants is highest. For a lot of people who think they may be candidates for anti-depressants, sleep, diet, and exercise, are more than enough. But there are a lot of people for whom anti-depressants improve their quality of life tremendously when other things didn't work.
You know she could've went to the beach to help with her depression? Would the alternative of her staying indoors in the dark and growing increasingly introverted and insane been a better alternative for you people?FTA:"Blanchard said that on her doctor's advice, she tried to have fun, including nights out at her local bar with friends and short getaways to sun destinations, as a way to forget her problems."

Solution (too late): Don't post stuff to Facebook. Too much comes back to bite you in the ass.
