politico.com — In a bold but risky year-end strategy, Democrats are preparing to raise the federal debt ceiling by as much as $1.8 trillion before New Year’s rather than have to face the issue again prior to the 2010 elections.

That is how a community organizer sees things.

Coburn, Liberal Democrats and their willing allies in the press have been fundamentally against domestic drilling and exploiting our natural resources for years, and with gas prices being low for many years, the GOP didn't have the will to fight the battle. Bush may have "known" that the policy wouldn't be changed but I don't think he or any conservative Republican was or is against drilling. Without an outcry from people over gas prices, there's no way they could win the public debate on the subject.. they'd be vilified in the press as not caring about the environment and as polluters, ect. His popularity was already in the tank because he stubbornly pursued the Iraqi campaign despite leading Democrats and the media declaring it lost."In other words, he KNEW that there was not going to be any off-shore drilling & was just using the issue as a campaign ploy to entice the gullible."Really? He was in his 2nd term when he made the statements and no longer running for anything, so that makes no sense. You're blinded if you think there's no difference between the parties. It's true that some RINOs and even Bush did things that were not representative of conservative principles but the Republican party as a whole is far, far better than the Democrats if you're a believer in smaller government and less federal interference in your life. I'm not contending that the Republicans are wonderful- just that any election is always a choice between the lesser of two evils and in this case if you're a conservative, the choice is clear at this time of government explosion.Conservatives should work within the GOP to elect candidates that better represent them and their views rather than declaring it lost and supporting 3rd party candidates, as doing so virtually guarrantees perpetual Democratic majorities and presidents- history bears that out. So if you believe in smaller government, lower taxes and more freedom you'll support the GOP. If you don't, and look outside the two parties, you're either a believer in bigger government or quite gullible yourself.

O and please do not say that Ah-node is a conservative. He only ran as a democrat because Gray Davis would not get out of the democrat seat without a fight.

"Let him clean up the mess first."You don't clean up a mess with a manure spreader! They are borrowing money to pay off the interest on debts that this nation will NEVER be able to repay! We must default. No other way. This cannot be pushed down the road any further! Don't be surprised if 200 tankers show up at our ports with Chinese troops (collection agents) to collect or break our knee-caps!

And if you look at that graph, the original one, it specifically shows that the red numbers are CBO numbers, yet says nothing about the grey bars, now they could be, and you have shown are, perfectly fine numbers. But that graph says nothing of where the numbers for the Bush administration numbers came from. I didn't ask anyone to read my mind, but just figured that anyone with simple reasoning skills would look at what I said and figure, he's talking about the united states deficit, and wikipedia, maybe it's the article on the united states deficit on wikipedia.

That's odd. All during the Bush tenure, it was his deficit. Now that Obama is in there, it is his. We are expected to pay it, no matter who created it.

Sorry, I'm a pragmatist. I don't care how many good ideas he has -- they count for nothing if he can't enact them. @AnalogAssassin - yeah, apparently :/
