The government's way into the money is that the government is giving people tax breaks on the money they put into their retirement accounts. So in weird bureaucrat logic, it isn't entirely yours.
I have a client from Austria who is always talking about how worried people are over the system there. It's sort of like our fears over social security, medicare, etc. Owning stock is unusual to them...most people just rely on the government system.You seem to prefer that, but what happens when the government cuts benefits, raises the age to collect them, etc.?
