apnews.myway.com — Members of Congress are in line for a pay raise effective Jan. 1 unless they block it, and Democrats said Thursday they intend to try. "It is unconscionable that members of congress would get yet another pay raise while the minimum wage has been stuck at $5.15 an hour for the last 10 years."

"McDonald's doesn't, Wal-Mart doesn't..."Nor are they small businesses."mom and pop liquor stores don't"Some do and some probably don't. If you examine statistics (and see the quotes I've provided), it has been clearly shown that in general, small businesses face harsh times when minimum wage goes up.But what is really amazing is the level of ignorance some people have, my totally valid post has -3 yet nobody has disputed the data I gave. bullish1's post has a +2, and its unlikely he has ever even taken an economics class, what I said above was one of the things I learned in my very first class.

Awww... looks like there's a group of bitter people out there. It's nice a way of trying to look good in front of working families considering special interest groups fund both parties' lifestyles.

What a press release this is. The Democrat's look like hero's when it's all a shill. Ask yourself why so many Congressmen use hundreds of thousands if not millions of their own money (Corzine in NJ was an example) in order to get a 2 to 6 year gig that pays about $150K annually. That would appear to be a losing proposition no? So what is their hidden agenda? Where are they making it back 10-fold?

Joeyjojo claims all ecnomic professors he has studied with say minimum wage doesn't cause unemployment or hurt small business owners? What planet did you go to school on? Even the most left-wing economists understand the logic behind it. Last time I checked it was near 90% of economists were in agreement that it's a bad thing. Heck, I'd even go as far as saying Paul 'I wish I understood economics' Krugman would agree. Okay, maybe that is taking it too far!

Here are two very simple economic laws. And just like laws of physics, they cannot be bent or changed despite what the pinheads in DC try to do to manipulate it. If someone in DC tells you that if you jump off a 10-store building because you can fly, would you forget about the law of gravity? The same applies for economics.Price caps cause shortages. Perfect examples are the rolling blackouts in California and the $30B bond that Californian's will have to cover over the next 30 years in order to pay the 2002 electric bill.Price floors cause surpluses. Minimum wage is a perfect example.Besides, why not set the minimum wage at $100 per hour? We'd all have more money, but money is not wealth.

Brother:>minimum wage is fine...if you studied economics, you'd know that raising minimum wage would be bad....Why? Is the average unemployment in states with a higher minimum wage, on average, higher than the average unemployment rate in states with lower minimum wages? No? Why not?

The vast majority of people who earn minimum wage are not poor. And it only serves to take options away from the unemployed.

This is typical smoke and mirrors. They can afford to oppose a salary hike since most of the members of the House are millionaires. The Pelosi fortune is over 115 million. There should be a rule that anyone making a million dollars a year shouldn't get ANY salary.

It's OK, re-elected William Jefferson (D) has plenty of cash in his freezer to distribute to the needy congressmen.
