techreport.com — Intel's death grip on Dell's desktop line has officially come to an end. Dell has unveiled Dimension E521 and C521 with a choice of Sempron, Athlon 64, and Athlon 64 X2 processors with prices starting at just $359. The systems will be available starting tomorrow, and some configurations will even be certified under the AMD Live! brand.

Word. About time.

I was thinking the same thing. This is the first time in 7-8 years that I even considered getting an Intel over an AMD. Actually, I just got myself an E6300, but I'm still a big fan of AMD. I needed new parts because my old system died and the Core 2 was simply the best budget chip available for my money. In 6 months, it may be a different story. Who knows! As for Dell, consumers can only benefit from choice.

I saw that. Also noticed you can get a 24" UltraSharp with the AMD E521 but only up to a 20" UltraSharp with Intel E520.

The point isn't always about who has the better processor - the point is, which processor does Dell pay less for?

This new processor should be really interesting to follow. I think the competition with AMD and Intel will be great for prices. We will see if AMD's quality will withstand the long proven history of Intel!

You intel fanboys are bigger dips**ts than some of the mac heads...

@rickbaulsDell supports Linux, in a terrible way.Try to install Red Hat on a Dell box, and you need to use the OEM's Install CD, whichcopies all your RedHat discs onto the system. Afterwords it does not allow you to select what packages you want or do not want to install. Therefore, after your install on "Dell's" Linux... you need to go in and remove what you don't want.

We don't care that much.We are an Intel house.
