direct2dell.com — "Since yesterday's launches, Direct2Dell readers like Concerned asked what we are doing to offer OS choice on the new products. From a Ubuntu perspective, we're now offering Ubuntu 7.04 to customers in the United States on the Inspiron 1420N notebook and the Inspiron 530N desktop. Both are available for order now at www.dell.com/open."

Well, I think Dell deserves the profit they'll get from that for being an innovator and giving people choice instead of being a supplicant to Microsoft.

In what possible way is Linux a s**tty mess? The Ubuntu system that comes pre-installed on these Dells is great.

I hope what Dell is doing will be the incentive for Ubuntu and Linux to become as user friendly as Mac and Windows so that it will catch on in a big way.

Honestly, I love beryl but the windows effects look much more unified(and I want flip3d so bad). Of course, I wouldn't pay money for them, but they're pretty good.

I don't think you know what innovation means...

There was some guy on the Ubuntu forums who was having people run a checking script to build a database of compatible hardware and models. That was like 6 months ago. I really wonder what happened to that project.

Ubuntu has always been known for its super-easy installation. But to make things even easier, Canonical and Dell have teamed together to deliver Ubuntu 7.04 fully certified, pre-installed and supported on a range of Dell products.http://www.niftynotebooks.com/dell
