theregister.co.uk — Lord was, of course, willing to say that, "Adoption has been very good" and the IdeaStorm push where Dell asks customers to promote things they would like to see represents "a two-way street" where Dell hopes users "will vote with their minds and wallets."

"They dumb it down for MS users"This is exactly why the mainstream doesn't give a s**t about Linux. Linux is not going to make a dent in Windows or Mac adoption if the Linux fan club continues calling millions of potential customers dumb or stupid.

Not in Australia. We've got Ubuntu boxes at work. Allowed us to put Windows redundant boxes to good use.Buying new Dell Ubuntu boxes is not possible, simply because they do not offer it here.

Holy Crap. It's actually possible that the PS3 can outsell something.

They'd lose a ton of money on tech support though. I've said it before and i'll say it again, it's not HARDER, but it is DIFFERENT, and for the majority of dell's market that is a problem. Heck, even I was going "what the hell is this crap" for my first day or two on ubuntu, mind you i didn't know wtf i was doing and was doing things, just, incredibly wrong. But my point still stands, it's different to the point that they'd be flooded with tech calls. Or, if canonical is handling all tech support, then they'd be flooded with calls.

Gee. Why do Linux users want a crap company to ship PC loaded with Linux?

Try getting a computer with FreeDOS. It's as close as you can get. And if I am correct, technically, the computer has no OS installed. They give you a FreeDOS CD with the computer to install.

After Microsoft stop supporting Windows XP, you will still be able to buy 3rd party support for Windows XP.

They are still expanding sales of these machines to other countries. I saw a link to 'Ubuntu Linux' last week on www.dell.be (Belgium) linking to an Inspiron 6400, but it didn't work yet, and now the link is gone again. But it's a good sign, it probably won't be long until they sell them in the Benelux, too.

I've actually worked at one of those places listed, we could get you a laptop with Gusty installed along with a virtual machine running XP pro. That way you could toggle between windows and Ubuntu, within Linux. I've done it a few times, it's really sweet. All you have to do is ask.

Yeah? Let me buy one in Canada. I have 14 people that are looking to buy computers, and they all use Ubuntu.
