If you read the article, it gives a real benefit - which is the reason they're putting Linux on it: You can have a small Linux install running in flash ROM for instant-on PIM/email/web capability.

The significance of this is, we are starting to see an embedded OS coming from a MAJOR mainstream and business commodity PC maker. The mere fact that there will be choice on which OS to boot by default says volumes in the weakening of the monopoly. I never said Linux was ready for 'the desktop' but it sure as hell ready for the netbook, which is the new paradigm. An embedded linux netbook, with some love and polish, could replace alot of mom and pop machines out there. Again if you read my post a bit more carefully you will see that i stated that its the end of MS as we know it. Their ability to bully the market is coming to a very rapid close. No one doubts that they are still an 800lb gorilla.

Took over twenty years to get back to the Commodore 64. What went wrong? Bloat and monopoly.
