downloadsquad.com— Dell may have abandoned its Axim handhelds, but hackers haven't. A new unofficial ROM puts Windows Mobile 6 on the Axim X50v and it runs far smoother than Windows Mobile 5.0.

that's sad because the VGA screen adds so much quality to the axim. I've seen both the x50 and x50v and the difference is amazing. that's why I chose the VGA version (that and I can run in VGA mode and browse the net and actually see most of the page).
I've been looking for something to replace my x51v, but everything is simply worse in some way. Either it's a smart phone with to small screen and no touchscreen, or no WiFi, or to big, or no VGA. I simply want a phone version of the x51v, without loosing anything. Well, drop the CF card support, if you must. Right now I'm waiting for the final version of the OpenMoko, the next HTC generation (which will hopefully be VGA), or maybe a slimmer version of the Toshiba G900.
This firmware is definitely pure awesome. I've been using it on my X50v for a few months and have to say...it's REALLY nice. I love my X50v, it's fast, powerful, connected, and has an awesome screen. I don't need phone capability when I have such awesome hardware, and this new OS makes the old PDA look even better. This is a must-have for any X50v (or X51v) owner.
