I have three opinions on the matter. First, the most controversial on a dig site, is that file-sharing allows a heretofore unrealized freedom to people, like me, who don't go to concerts to enjoy music without paying the creators a dime. I don't steal music anymore, but I could see a point in the future when I might.Second, file-sharing is similar to taping music off of the radio, something that was not condoned but which everyone did anyway despite also buying music they appreciated. But the difference is that radio play didn't provide ENTIRE albums while file-sharing does. The approach to this change in media distribution needed a lobby for new legal treatment.Third, the RIAA has taken it too far. Admittedly, iTunes and its ilk require people to willingly choose NOT to break the law when there's no real way to combat them. But the RIAA has overstepped its boundaries by going farther than trying to protect IPs to trying to itemize DATA ITSELF. The recent double-purchase model of ringtone + song is f**king retarded and someone needs to stop this.
@pseviumbecause all artists = disturbed. not all record companys work the same, not all artists get the same deals, and some of them are self publishing (usually through something like itunes).@tmslakyou're spending money on the music, the price that the music is set at is up to the publisher/distributer and just because you disagree with the price that they sell it at doesn't mean that it justifies stealing..."And, seriously...I'm sure you've seen the way some of these artists live...do we really need to be supporting that lifestyle any more than we already are?"this is just another justification, it's their money they should be able to do what they want with it. if you don't want to encourage their life styles then don't buy their music.
