there were only one or two theaters even close to where I live that were showing it, AND I LIVE IN THE MIDDLE OF CHICAGO! I will try to go see it later though, heard it was great

Fox is not stupid (in regard to Borat anyway) - ever heard of word of mouth? Creating hype? Demand in the marketplace? The Borat movie is good, therefore it can stand a slow build up as word of mouth creates anticipation (even in red states) and in the end maximizes profit. I can guarantee that both Sasha and Fox marketing execs are patting themselves on the back as I type.
