gonintendo.com — In this scan from a December 1991 issue of Nintendo Power, a reader casually talks about his dream system: a system that could play any of Nintendo's past games, cost $260, and came with the game "Super Mario Galaxy".

They should've highlighted that you CAN make games with the WII.Keep your eyes open, kids.

That would explain the name 'wii'

Wow, that makes you look so cool and cynical I can hardly contain my adoration for you.In the most recent Nintendo Power, someone pointed this out to the editors and they responded with "Now that's creepy..". It's real.

"Raw Power System" is much better name than Wii.

WHen I was a kid of the age of ~7 [now 21](when I owned a NES and was jsut getting a SNESI always said I wanted ONE Nintendo system, that could play all my games , so when "upgraded" NES>SNES>N64 etc, I could pop in the cartridge and play my old games (without blowing). This is pretty close, and in fact, is quite better, (no blowing, no physical media)... but... now what will I do with my 70 NES and 30 SNES cartridges. Also, I dont want to ahve to PAY for these games form/for the Virtual Console... because I frickin own the games. I dont think its possible for Nintendo to check this though (through a unique cartridge serial or something).Would be cool, or like some promo to mail in all your cartridges for Virtual Console Store Credit. Are you listening Nintendo? I authorize you to do this, cut me 10% of the profit, in USD or CAD, not a currency created by you (lol Nintendo Power dollars.... )

Thing is, Xbox 360 has already been out for a year, and PS3 costs... What's it now again? $599 US DOLLARS? PS3 doesnt even have a new controller man, they just stole a little from Microsoft and a little from Nintendo, and kept the basic design. That thing is 10 years old now...

Yokai: because that isn't all sony wants the PS3 to do. They want it to be the "center of your digital home" or some nonsense like that. It has media center stuff with picture viewers and a web browser and lets you plug in your camera, mp3 player, it's got bluetooth, and wifi, and gigabit ethernet ports, and an upgradeable hard drive...I mean, I'm all for cool features, but that's the kind of stuff you buy a computer for!

it's funny that up on one of these comments they refer to him as a kid, because he's 30 now and he's my boss at GameStop. Obviously video games are in his blood. But yeah, he told me about the article and sure enough I dug up my old Nintendo Powers and there was his letter. Granted he was just a stupid kid making up nonsense about a video game system, but still, that's awesome. I told him he should try to get some money out of nintendo for coming up with the name.

Hey there folks I'm Jim Peterford and I wrote that letter to Nintendo Power back in 1991. I was totally unaware of all the commotion that my letter caused until my girlfriend texted me after she googled my name and found all the articles about my description of the ultimate gaming system almost 17 years ago which turned out to be shockingly similar to the Wii, as well as naming Super Mario Galaxy. Who knows what possessed me to write what I wrote all those years ago, but I guess it was worth something! Anyway, I just wanted to state right here and right now that I have officially surfaced and anyone who would like to contact me can do so at code1superstar@yahoo.com. Also look me up on facebook and myspace. My myspace name is code1superstar and on facebook you can just find me as James Peterford. I'd love to hear from you! (Especially if you work for Nintendo or a gaming publication!) The gaming Nostradamus has spoken! :)
