forevergeek.com — Good article that goes into the commonly (and mistaken) repeated statement that MySpace has 100 million users. It explains why the number is wrong, does a quick analysis of actual MySpace profiles, and extrapolates to estimate that there are really 40 million users. Still a large number, but a far cry from 100 million.

I'm glad someone finally pointed out why people actually hate MySpace, not the notorious claim that it's people who are simply anti-mainstream because it's the 'trendy' thing to do.

I look forward to when people stop using myspace, it is so ghetta and other sites are much much better. check out my zoji profile and see a well-run social networking site with unlimited photo uploading/sharing, email, blogging, a gmail-like chat system built in, evite feature parody (ability to see whose viewed your invitation etc), all in a nice looking CSS layout interface.<a class="user" href="http://www.zoji.com/jet">http://www.zoji.com/jet</a>here is the about page for the guys behind Zoji<a class="user" href="http://zoji.com/css/AboutUs.htm">http://zoji.com/css/AboutUs.htm</a>Also, you can import your myspace or facebook profile when you sign up.GET THE CORPORATIONS OUT OF YOUR SOCIAL LIFE!

Oh boy, more MySpace hate. You haters need to get a hobby or something. So what if its users vs accounts . Who cares. Besides, Some the users have multiple personalities. Where are those extra users accounted for?

@loates - MySpace is generally considered as the website of choice for middle schoolers and high schoolers. College students generally prefer TheFacebook. Although, now that Facebook has opened its gates to the public and not just .edu addresses, some are worried that it will turn into another MySpace. We'll just have to wait and see...

The article is written purely about the 100,000,000 MySpace account IDs. Obviously the number of visitors is going to be different than the number of accounts created -- but that isn't the point of this article.
