The general plan is to sail far away from shore. Pirates will only be motivated to get you if you're in their operating range. Too far out, they'll either never see you (the ocean is big), or you'll be too much distraction from their main business, drug running. You plan enough to hit the LARGE ports; they are better patrolled and a little less likely to be local extortion rings.Finally, if you kill those assh**es close to shore, you're going to piss off their relatives, who will bring the Federales. Sink them far out at sea, you'll be far away by the time they realize what happened.Frankly, I can't see anything enjoyable about the experience, unless I also wanted an opportunity to kill people "in self defense" and try not to get caught afterwards.

commerical vessels are not allowed to have weapons. isn't that great? keep the decent people unarmed, and the pirates dont care about regulations and laws.

Mexico is awesome as long as you make sensible decisions, I felt safe almost everywhere except some parts of mexico city at night. Agreed with DESX about puerto escondido, greatest beach town. Although I now see direct flights there so I'm not sure about the hidden gem part anymore.

Nobody thinks to leave port with the boat armed to the f**king teeth? If you're going to end up dead and or raped anyway, might as well make it as hard as possible for them, and the reality is that these f**kers want NOTHING to do with somebody who has the audacity to shoot back at them. Like all criminals, they are cowards who will most likely run at the first sign of trouble.
