thegeekmedia.blogspot.com — This is a pretty interesting open letter to Digg written by someone who thinks there's a problem in the "Podcast" section of Digg. Not a bad read. They praise Digg and at the same time give nice feedback on what the problem is.

I agree, there is SO MUCH possibility with the podcasting section and they kind of missed the mark. I can think of about 1,000 cool ways to improve the podcasting, and since it has seen ZERO change in the past year or so.. I'd like to know that they are even looking at making it a better system... :(

And once you submit your podcast to a category it stays there. We submitted ours over a month ago. It ended up being listed under Gov't & Organizations which was our original submission. We've since changed our feed to Science, and even contacted Digg directly to have it moved, or at least listed in multiple categories...never got a response, never saw a change. I agree that changes are needed...I've seen a lot of good podcasts that have 3 or 4 diggs but you wouldn't know b/c you can never find them.

Wow. Thanks for that reply, Jay. I'm shocked this thing got dugg like this. It wasn't supposed to be. It was an open letter written after a few podcasters got together and started talking. The rest is history. Reading your reply makes me pretty happy to see some changes will be happening. I am glad to see such a huge amount of support and ideas being thrown about. Maybe many of the ideas these comments have in them will give you all some ideas. It looks like your community has spoken.

Um. well, if I recall correctly, people were saying how they wanted a picture section every time there was an article with a picture. Then everytime digg came out with anything else, people would say "Great, now where's our picture section?"

I hate them both. People need to accept that the term arose for a good reason, understand it's history, and live with it.

As a podcaster, the Digg podcast section has two uses for me. First, it can get exposure for my podcast. Two, it can let my listeners tell me which episodes they like, and which they don't, by digging them. As a listener, the digg podcast section has just one use for me. Help me find new podcasts to listen to that I will enjoy. These are the three core functionalities that the Digg podcast section need to concentrate on. I suggest you start by allowing podcasters to put "digg this!" buttons on each individual episode of their podcast on their website.

Very good article. Very good point! Thanks for writing this... and thanks to all who dugg it. This is the first step in getting Digg to revisit the Podcast beta.
