newteevee.com — You set your Comcast DVR to record only new episodes of your favorite TV series, but it winds up recording every?single?showing, including all repeats? The problem is especially bad with a show like Project Runway, which Bravo seems to run on a continuous loop, clogging my DVR and requiring constant deleting. So what does Comcast say... well

I had a comcast motorola hddvr for a few weeks, the interface sucked, quality was so so, and to top it off the hdd was just too loud, so I downgraded to a regular hd box. Comcast hardware and GUIs really do feel like they are from the 90s, it's annoying, and I sorely wish there was competition here.

Yeah I like recording History Channel HD, Sci Fi channel Hd, HBO, Showtime, or just about anything else. Its DirectTV, i'm guessing that's all encrypted.

I don't mean to go on a rant here, but .... Comcast's DVR is the worst POS tech product that I have ever used. I have never been as tempted to throw a piece of hardware into the wall as I have been with Comcast's Motorola DVR. The short list of problems:1. Frequently, the thing just locks up and pressing buttons does no good. It does store all the button presses, though, and executes them when it decides it's ready.2. The damn thing thinks I want to know when it's finished recording something and puts up a box to let me know it's done its job, even though that box obscures whatever I'm currently watching. Bravo you little POS, you did what you were supposed to do.3. Why can't I easily search for something? Why can't I eliminate the channels I don't get? Why is it that if I block adult content and then come across that label in the alphabetical program listing, it then takes me to the a-d-u section of the alphabetical listing?4. God help you if you record/watch something in HD and then try to watch something else on the other tuner. 9 times out of 10 you will end up with the buttons doing nothing for a good 30 seconds or more.5. What about the supposed deal with Tivo? You've been promising me a box by Comcast/software by Tivo for 3 years now. I guess Tivo didn't realize how much Comcast sucks when they inked that deal. Poor bastards.6. Why does the inane emergency broadcast test interrupt me watching something I've recorded and interrupt my recordings? When I see the flash, I'll duck and cover.7. Have you ever actually tried to find something on On Demand? A menu system designed by drunk, evil monkeys.8. Oh yeah, while we're talking about On Demand, good luck getting a refund when you've paid for a movie that just won't play.I could go on, and on, and on, but you get the idea.

Everyone has been pretty happy with FiOS internet, so it would be a shame if Verizon screwed up their TV.

I logged on to find some "helpful hints" about Comcast's DVR, and now I am 100% convinced to switch to TiVo. Our building is old and the power goes out about once every 2 weeks. This wipes the DVR clean (and we have to re-set everything, not to mention we lose all saved programs). Turns out the POS doesn't even have a hard drive and does this whenver the power goes out... This was the final straw, after losing the end of most live sporting events (DVR doesn't adjust to changed schedules). And I stopped recording the "new" episodes of the Daily Show since it fills up my DVR weekly. Sigh... what's a girl to do?
