Well, David Brooks ain't much of a pundit -- some of his columns during the Bush years were nothing short of insane themselves -- but this is significant in that there seems to be some sort of push-back forming amongst Republicans with any sort of measurable IQ. Knocking Reagan down from his place above the altar of conservative thought is a bold move; let us see how this sort of apostasy is treated by the dead-enders.
The GOP has truly shot its bolt. All they do is dwell on some mythical past, a golden age that never was. It's time to think ahead, to find solutions that work, not blindly follow the bankrupt policies of the past. And it's not just the economy - that's just a symptom of Republican malaise. Even FOX the other day said the Republican Party has no leader (neither Steele nor Limbaugh), and that they are a fringe party because they cannot reach out to new voters - because if they do, they lose the base. They've dug themselves a hole so deep they have no way to get out of it.
David continues to stand out as the new "top" Political commentator; now compared to Rush 'n Palin he is very mid stream (compared to what used to be called the GOP)! I hope he gets his own show and surrounds himself with folks that ask hard questions and don't just make polite small talk in trade for access!
Maybe you could try reading the article, viewing the video and then read the history of Hoovers attempts to control spending and rely heavily on buisness for relief at the start of the depression first. Too little too late! As for Bush? You brought him up, not me not the article.
Why the hell should we stop spending? Just because we're TRILLION$$$$$ in debt is no fvcking reason to stop spending. What kind of crazy idea is THAT?(seems like there is no one left with common sense)

Hoover and Bush intervened in the economy repeatedly and never let anybody fail.http://econlog.econlib.org/archives/2008/11/hoover ...If you're attempting to propagate the hoover myth, I suggest to listen to other commentators besides ignorant statist left-wingnuts.
