The addition of a DVR would make me consider buying an Apple TV. I don't think it would rule out the possibility of iTunes show purchases for people. They'd still buy old show episodes, or shows exclusive to premium channels that they don't get.

It's all about the interface and integration with iTunes. Sure most cable/satelite companies offer DVR's but they are locked down and have a poor interface. A lot of other comapnies make MP3 players too.All that is needed is a cable card and the cable companies are required to lease those out.

Conflict of interest here, it'll never happen... much more likely apple allows free internet streaming of tv shows from the networks websites in an effort to bring down cable tv.

I'm not sure if a DVR version holds any real value. As it is most cable/satelite companies offer DVR, You can biuld your own DVR.. Honestly, DVR on the apple TV is a nice accessory but not a big deal. (Heck with the writers strike my DVR sat empty for 4 months). Now if they included a Progressive DVD player (Blue Ray would hike up the price too high I'd guess and Progressive Scan DVD's look pretty good I'm told on HD. ) built in and maybe some kind of on demand subscription service with music and video instead of purchases and rentals.
