torrentfreak.com — For years the RIAA has defended the use of DRM, much to the dislike of millions of honest customers who actually paid for their music. Now, in a shocking turnaround, the outfit seems to have come to the realization that DRM does more harm than good and has officially declared its death.

Oh I'm sorry, did I mention video games in my comment? No, I don't think I did. But while we're on the subject I might as well talk about them as well. The video game and movie industry is somewhat different than the record industry. As I said before, the whole business model for any industry that sells (pirate able) media is changing. I don't think piracy is a huge problem at least in the console industry but someday within the next decade or so it probably will be easy to pirate console games. The game industry seems to already be preparing for this, if you notice the measures that are being used to stop people from buying used games, as well as DLC, subscription based services, ad based revenue, etc. I think they're already well aware of the evolution of the industry and are willing to change along with the rest of the world,The movie industry is something else, I really don't have any ideas for them. Though I'm sure they'll figure something out.Oh, and FYI, I pirate music and movies, not games. (OK, the occasional PC game.. I'm more of a console gamer)

Well no s**t. Who the f**k needs DRM when you can just go around suing who ever you want to?

Because the ROI for lawsuits against single moms, children, students, and so forth is so much better than the ROI on DRM.

I dunno, until I can buy FLAC copies of music, there's still a use for uncompressed audio CDs. If you have a nice audio setup (and I'm not talking crazy expensive, just a nice stereo setup... not made-for-PC speakers) you can hear the clarity difference in lossless vs lossy.

Of course he wanted a CD. If he really likes some music and wants to buy it, shouldn't he get the highest-quality version available? Now, direct me to an online music store that offers a wide selection of FLAC, and we'll revisit your "nobody wants CDs anymore" argument.
