Maybe because this app can connect to the PC directly from within the network instead of uploading everything to the interweb and downloading it back, thus wasting valuable bandwidth? (this coming from a guy with a 20 Mbps connection, which is hardly ever the case for someone in the US)
My gf is trying to convince me to give her my Xbox because I have a Wii but like Murdats, I use it for XBMC. Unless we get a media center for the Wii, the Xbox is staying here...

do you really want to put stress on your Wii by using it as some lame media extension device? there are tons of other options for this.
