myaimistrue.com — "Another easy little DIY project that anyone could do. I hate hate HATED my spice cabinet. I always forgot what was there, plus it was up high and I couldn?t see anything. After seeing a magnetic spice rack like this one, I knew I wanted to do something similar, but I would need more tins and didn?t want to take up any counter space. "

Great idea but bad implementation. One of the worst places you can store your spices is around a constantly fluctuating heat source.I wanted one of those magnetic racks when I saw them at Kitchen Window. The problem was that for the cost they didn't include much; A stainless steel "memo board" and 10 canisters for $65.When I started my kitchen remodel I used stainless steel as a back-splash under the cupboards, above the counters. I purchase 60 tins at Ikea at $5/3.I have extra tins now for anything I might need to store. I use about 30 of them on a regular basis. If you don't cook every day and have dinner parties a few nights a month like I do then the set of 10 should be sufficient since you don't want spices to sit too long.Just my two cents.I still give this a digg since it replicates a much overpriced item at a substantial savings.

Anyone else think that it'd be cool in a house that has tile walls to just replace tiles in a checkerboard pattern with stainless steel tiles that have been polished to near mirror quality? Spices could be placed anywhere that's convenient and if a guy had to do it, at least he got to use some steel while re-tiling the kitchen. On second thought though, it *might* get expensive.

@g3r4Have you considered offset printing plates form your local newspaper. They are often free if they have been used, or you can get unused ones on the cheap on ebay. I am using them to reface my kitchen cabinets soon.

y'know, that's a really great idea... I like the colors, but I don't like the clutter... although, to mount a metal plate inside a cupboard would be great, I'm pretty sure my fiance would and I would both find it useful.

Just over a year ago, my wife and I decided we were tired of digging for spices while cooking or, worse yet, discovering at the last minute that we didn’t have what we needed. It was time for some serious organization. I let my obsessive compulsive nature take over and worked up a pretty good system. In the process, we freed up a lot of valuable kitchen cabinet space, but as time passed, we decided my first attempt at a homemade spice rack was a bit too cumbersome. It was a great learning experience and one that I have recently leveraged when I went back to the drawing board for Spice Rack 2.0. Head over to my blog to read more about my second generation spice rack!http://vaughnaustin.com/2008/01/09/spice-rack/
