valleywag.gawker.com — Those who can't do, teach. Second Life, the most overhyped virtual world, has been abandoned even by its most fervent journalistic promoters, like Reuters and Wired. It's now pitching itself as an online schoolhouse. How fitting, since Second Life, a piece of software which allows users to move "avatars" representing themselves around in a 3D

How long have you been running those businesses and how long did it take for those businesses to become profitable?

Lol, if Second Life is the Metaverse, I would rather smoke crack in the Burbclaves. SL was just lame.

Well, it's not like I made a point of locating the gay yiffing clubs with a ball gag in my mouth like you did.

I tried hitting "JOIN" but it's not working. Stupid website must be down. Doesn't even tell you how to play!

I met my wife on Second Life, so I guess I can't call it a total failure. :PBut Linden Lab has really mishandled the whole thing. They should have pushed the platform, the technology. They should've made sincere efforts to open the technology up to be the 3D successor to the World Wide Web. They should've embraced open technologies that were already out there. Instead, they stuck to their half-assed technology, bought out a few half-baked technology solutions nobody was even asking for (i.e. their environment/lighting system, Windlight), and they concentrated instead on monopolizing the entirety of what meager little economy had sprung up around SL.

OOOoooooo...Some of you are sooo catty. Second Life may not be fullfilling the projected potential that Big Business hoped it would but does that signify failure? SL is and always has been promoted as a world where the "little people" could create the world. Were they to step aside so Corporate America could slid in and turn the game into some venture capitalists tax write off? The important thing to remember is that it is a game. Games are for escape. SL provides escape in abundance. You learn smooth manuevers to weed out the sex pervs and hey...that's a skill we can use in real life! =)
