ilounge.com — Karma. Doing the "right thing." Thinking different. Apple's enlightened approach to building customer loyalty is now famous. But in breaking iPod video accessories, charging restocking fees for defective iPod touch units, and forcing double purchases of iPod games and ringtones, customers think Apple's becoming the next Microsoft. Are they?

I am not an Apple user or fan of any kind, and I can say from the outside, as in not obsessed with Apple and Jobs, I do think they are starting to f**k up. It's just.. yeah.

I purchased a 4 gig iPhone gig 3 days before the price drop and discontinuation of that very model model. So, somewhat pissed off, I called up Apple and asked if there was some type of swap I could do (this is before they announced the 14 day return policy and $100 refund). They overnighted me an 8 gig phone and paid for the shipping of the 4 gig back. Yeah, that's a terrible company there...

....and you'll notice Apple's release patterns for the iPhone in Europe. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they avoid releasing in those countries where they will not be able to sell the iPhone in locked form.

Let's also not forget that the iSuppli teardowns don't take anything other than the cost of component *parts* into consideration. Of course Apple is making a profit, but it's unreasonable to assume that they're making *that* much of a profit. They still have to pay for R&D, packaging, shipping, warehousing, and keep the lights on in the company in general terms. This all comes into the costing model that is in their annual report. While I agree with very little that they've done lately, and am certainly *not* an Apple fanboy, the reality is that credit should be given where credit is due, and these iSuppli reports present a really distorted picture of the facts.
