blogs.discovermagazine.com — It’s dead obvious that creationism isn’t science, or even bad science. It’s nonsense. But I’ve long stated it’s also bad religion, because it doesn’t just take faith, it also takes a phenomenal disregard of reality. Moderate Christians should distance themselves from such garbage, as it is a clear distortion of the Bible.

That's the great thing about electricity, science, combustion, asprin, etc -- you don't have to be confident or knowledgeable at all to know they work.

Club fan... you're right... from you're point of view...it is not rational to love your enemies as you do yourself... it is not rational to give to those in need when you yourself are in need... it is not rational to hold yourself to a higher standard when no one else is watching... yes none of these things are rationalTo answer you're questions... I do have countless personal experiences with God... He does speak to me... and yes I have witnessed miracles... I'm sure you witness miracles everyday... you just refuse to acknowledge them.As for taking things literally... the problem isn't that people are taking stuff literally... its that they are taking them completely out of context. I could pick up anyone of my text books and find something in there that if I took it "literally" it would be completely insane. But guess what... the bible isn't a text book.

well, it really is that simple, the burden of proof lies with those making the claim. It is next to impossible to prove that something does not exist.I believe that a green, two tailed tiger exists in the amazon, dont believe me? Then it is your job to prove me wrong.

If it fits perfectly in the hand therfore it belongs in your mouth... If that logic works then I would be able to bend down about another foot... Not that I would, but I am just saying it would make the whole not having sex before marrige part of Christianity alittle easier to follow.

If you look back to the earliest copies of the Biblical texts, some of them within a generation of the original, you can compare them to what we have today. Out of thousands of years of the Bible being copied and translated and all, there have been very few, if any, errors. I did hear one statistic on it that would help prove my point, but I can't find the source for it so I won't list it. There are programs out there that have the Bible in the original Hebrew and Greek and all, and you can compare them word by word to what we have today.

Jehovah's Witnesses are not the only brand that denies a literal 6 day creation. The entire Christian church has taken the Genesis account metaphorically for thousands of years, only recently have a few Christian denominations decided to renounce the traditional reading in favor of their silly literal take.

s0l0s0ul - "But your argument is flawed, because it's not that I don't believe that there is or is not a two tailed tiger which exists in the amazon; what I don't believe, is that you believe its there."That's awfully judgemental. Who are you to determine what someone is thinking, believing or feeling? In fact, it invalidates your own argument just as well as absentmindedjwc did, by making assumptions without any basis whatsoever.s0l0s0ul - "because quite honestly, I don't care what you, or anyone else believes. I also dont really care what anyone thinks about what I believe. What I do know, is that my belief is based on faith, and faith alone."For someone claiming to be crying out for better communication and constructive discourse, you sure have a knack for shutting it down.

According to "Canones" text added to this doctrine, the First Vatican Council reaffirms the following truths: 1) The only true God is the Creator and Lord "of things visible and invisible" (ibid., 3021), 2) It is against the faith the assertion that there is only matter (materialism) (ibid., 3022), 3) the claim is against the faith that God identifies itself primarily with the world (pantheism) (ibid., 3023); 4) It is against faith claim that the creatures, even spiritual ones, are an emanation of the divine substance, or assert that the Divine Being with his manifest or evolve to become all things (ibid., 3024), 5) is against the faith the idea that God is universal being that is undefined by determining that the universe is divided into genera, species and individuals (ibid., 3024); 6) It is likewise against the faith to deny that the world and all things in it, both spiritual and material, according their whole substance have been created by God from nothing (ibid., 3025).http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/aud ...

Faith and reason are not opposed, they are both a gift of God: Faith is a supernatural gift by which we can be friends, children of God While pride, and not reason, can be deceiving!
