The architect, in order to offer a choice to Stalin, drew up the plans and had the wings in two different styles on the plan. Instead of choosing, Stalin simply initialed the diagram. The architect, out of fear of offending the dictator, built it as drawn.at this link, second image down you can see that the left and right wings are very different.http://hotel-moskva.ru/index.en.html This hotel is pictured on the Stolichnaya label.Oh and you gotta love this copy on the hotel web site: " Despite of the huge changes which have occurred in the country, the hotel still borrows one of conducting places in system of a hotel facilities of the capital. It looks like there are really a few types of architecture on the webpage. The first one looks much like Futurism.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futurist_architectureThe rest of the them on the webpage look like Constructivist.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constructivist_architectureA lot of people that are linking the US and Western Europe architecture that "looks like" the USSR architecture are actually more closely related to Brutalism.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BrutalismThese were all different time periods, so I just wanted to give people links so they can learn a little more about the context.
