theglobeandmail.com — Mr. Reynolds used a new classifieds site, Flugpo.com, that has more anti-crime measures in place, including a complete ban on erotic-services ads. "Why couldn't Craigslist follow suit?" he said. "That would go a long way toward eliminating crime on the site. Right now, it's like the Wild West on there. Everything is anonymous and anything goes...

Very true. I think taking away the anonymous factor does help. It is not a guarantee of safety, but it is a step in the right direction at least.

Definitely agree that Craigslist is full of suspicious activity... I posted an ad a while back looking for local -volunteer- work, and all I got was half a dozen people who wanted all manner of personal information without being willing to provide any information about their nonexistent organizations. Not something that makes me want to return. -.-;;

Craigslist has a lot of scams, but still, it an very active and responsive advertising medium. Flugpo had about 5k users last time I checked, but traffic wise has been fairly stagnate. Another site that is similar to Flugpo is http://www.jihoy.com, which tries to address the problem with trust by allowing relationship based classified ads.

Any simpleton that believes it is good to start censoring Craigslist users better think again. This is not the end, next you will hear more public officials looking to waste your time and money going after site owners that have users posting profiles on dating sites that have false information. Better yet, as a web site owner you probably need to visit with every person that uses your site, perhaps you can even make users fill out an ?internet use evaluation form? and if it appears that they are unstable after independent review you can deny them access to your site. Even better, the federal government can make us all apply for an internet use license to generate jobs, steal more money from us and violate our rights further.
