f facebbok intends to offer just plain web based apps, Google still have an edge over it, in terms of providing the services (search, ad words and so on)... Facebook still seems a niche market driven organization....

I hope that our society as a whole is never dumb enough to use an entirely web-based OS. I also hope that there is never another tech company so monopolistic and all-encompassing as Microsoft.
