e4engineering.com — Members of Cornell's Global Positioning System (GPS) Laboratory have cracked the pseudo random number (PRN) codes of Europe's first global navigation satellite. The researchers published the codes and the methods used to extract them, giving free access to navigation devices that need PRNs to listen to satellites.

If it's a duplicate, post the link here. Since there's no link to the original, I will digg this one because this post is what brought the story to my attention.

Yes, rest assured no really important codes are ever cracked.

Sorry for the off-topic comment. This story was on the front page 2 days ago: http://digg.com/tech_news/Cracking_the_Secret_Codes_of_Europe_s_Galileo_SatelliteA search on the keyword Galileo would have shown 1 original and FOUR dupe posts. Here are those search results: http://digg.com/search?search=GalileoWhat concerns me more than this one was a dupe post I saw yesterday (from another friend of mine) that went to the front-page hours earlier. At 6 diggs, I added a dupe comment in the post. The poster made NO attempt to correct the issue, or even acknowledge it. There is no excuse for that - especially for someone with his Digg experience. At least gwjc acknowledged the dupe.I accidentally post dupes too (and I frickin hate it!)- but we ALL need to a much better job at dealing with dupes and STOP blaming the dupe checker. And assuming someone isn't being an asshat about it, the dupe poster needs to take some steps to acknowledge the dupe and take corrective action. One final comment: minimizing dupes is in everyone's interest. Modding people down for observing a dupe doesn't help.
