Er, where can I get a $199 HDDVD player? Oh, you mean the 360 add-on drive... that requires I have a $300 Xbox to use. So it's a $500+ HDDVD player, isn't it.Jackass.
@jonnyeh Yup, my cable box does 1080i over component. And I'm sure that any Blu-ray or HD-DVD player will do the same. You'll run into problems if/when the ICT is activated and you don't have HDCP complient devices. Because then the player will downrez before outputting.
You bet it won't be perfect 1080p that 360 outputs over component. Xbox 360 doesn't output 1080p HD-DVD movies over component, due to ACSS rules. Although it will do so over RGB, and that's near 100% reproduction too.The moment someone breaks ACSS, this $3,000 solution will become immaterial, like analog capture did with DVD. Which is why the ICT may never come into play.
1080i over component IS supported on the Toshiba HD-A1. All HD-DVDs play 1080i over component. The only caveat is that regular DVDs are not allowed to be upscaled to 1080i over component. They are forced down to 480p unless HDMI is connected. The same should go for the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on. It is part of the DVD spec and should be enforced on all players.

You must be a fool to think you can copy an HD-DVD using an original xbox.

hell, i'll be extremely happy with a 720p divx version. 1080p/1080i is overkill on my lcd.
