slashfilm.com — "We've been to The Coolidge Corner Theatre in Boston, the Castro in San Francisco, The Arclight in Los Angeles, and even the new Mark Cuban owned Landmark. The Alamo Drafthouse theater is by far the best movie theater we?ve ever been to. It?s the type of movie theater that makes us wish we lived in Texas, and here?s why?"

the seat rows have space inbetwen them enough for the servers to walk down the rows... and your table and chair are set somewhat higher, so if the server kind of bends down as they walk, you almost never see them until they are right there at your seat. and ordering is really simple, you just write what you want on a little slip of paper, and they come by and discreetly grab the order slip. they only talk to you if they need to ask you to understand what you wrote. otherwise, they silently take the orders, and then deliver them. and usually the only people that you might notice making noises while eating are yourself and the people you came with that you are sitting right next to. for the most part, this doesn't interfere with the experience much at all, and in a lot of ways, it adds to the feel of the place.

I saw a shirt last week at SXSW, it said "Welcome to Austin, Remember to Leave".

If you have a date and you want to get dinner and a movie over with early so you can get on to, um, "other things" then Alamo is a great choice.

Where to start... Austin is small enough to feel cozy and large enough to do everything you can in a big city and more. It's hilly, beautiful, covered in lush trees. It's got unbelievable parks, the people are cool, the feel of the city is relaxed, man. The place is pot-friendly (perhaps an understatement), access to excellent lakes, a thriving and growing economy with tons of job opportunities, tons of great restaurants, and the nightlife is badass (even for those not inclined toward getting hammered on Sixth street). And you're about 40 minutes north of the Comal and Guadalupe rivers, where you can lounge in a tube and tear into a cooler of beer with your buddies all day long. It's an enlightening experience if you can remember it.Traffic can suck and you'll run into a lot of burnouts, but I think that's fun.Anyone want to fill in the gaps?

I thought something like this. I still don't see the point of taking a long exposure and using flash at the same time (unless blurs are wanted). Thanks for making me look up "rear curtain flash" though. I feel smrter now.

I've been to the Alamo Drafthouse and thought it was a blast. I then visted Cinetopia (<a class="user" href="http://www.cinetopiatheaters.com/)">http://www.cinetopiatheaters.com/)</a> and they blew my mind. I know these two theaters are probably like a classic American burger joint vs an upscale restaurant and perhaps meant for different crowds. Still if you're impressed with VIP service Cinetopia is the place to go... the next time you're in the portland area.
