Yes if you're driving. Also hard to read in the dark, especially after a day of staring at a screen. Also remember that a portion of the population is visually impaired. Improving text to speech and the availibility of ebooks would open up new horizons for them. There are also things you can do with sound that you can't really do with text like loop it.
Check out the new app called VocaTalk Personal Podcast. This is the only app that generates speech with background music. It generates CD quality stereo podcasts and directly uploads to iTunes and Zune. It's designed specially for people who read A LOT and want to have fun at the same time. http://www.vocamedia.com

I like to listen to books when I'm bed, before I get asleep. Printing the book or reading it from the computer isn't a very good option in this case.

What is the digg communities recommendation for a text to speech windows program? I would be willing to spend some money for it.
