gallup.com — The increased conservatism among Americans last June persisted throughout the year, so that the year-end political ideology figures confirm Gallup's initial reporting: conservatives (40%) outnumbered both moderates (36%) and liberals (21%) in 2009.

"Yet nowhere in The Constitution do they define this country as a Christian nation. "Some state constitutions already did. The idea was explicitly rejected when writing the US constitution."However it was Christians stating Christian principles which eventually ended slavery and in time segregation too."What about the one-and-a-half thousand years previously in which Christians had no objection to slavery, and even went so far as to pioneer it as an global trade? Or the great many churches and individuals during the debates of abolition who considered slavery not only compatable with Christianity, but a divinely ordained institution?

LOL at land-line phone polls. Most progressives I know don't even have land-lines any more. Even though the US is the last bastion of Western Conservatism, it is dying out here as well. I give it two more generations, at best. It's hard to live in this global, interconnected world with access to so much information and remain a conservative, unless you're either very old, very ignorant or are a simple sociopath. I have two very good friends who came from very conservative Southern backgrounds. They used to be hard-core, nationalistic, bigoted, commie-hatin' Republicans, until they joined the military and served in Germany, traveling all over Europe and mingling with the locals, making some good friends in the process. The experience has really opened up their eyes to the fallacies of American exceptionalism, consumerism, organized religion, militarism, anti-socialism, homophobia and all the other typical Conservative bulls**t. They have both voted for Obama and consider themselves to be left-leaning moderates now. This leaves me with hope that many other conservatives can also come to their senses and become decent human beings.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

@KtoheE: you should study some medieval history, the "dark ages" where far more exciting than you could imagine. As for the "progressive-educated" people, they're more often than not so out of touch with reality that their airheaded ideas are midway between laughable and offending. By the way, what are my "bogus unfounded ideas", lowlife?@foster5662: people flip-flop not because of a "lack of rational thinking" but because of practical reasons. People vote the party that best suits their interests, and it's only natural that it should be so. Humans are animals, and they will do what they need to do for their own gain. Any other consideration is idle speculation.
