washingtonpost.com — The new Democratic House majority leader is writing next year's Congressional schedule, and it looks like members will be kissing their three day work weeks goodbye. "I have bad news for you," Hoyer told reporters. "Those trips you had planned in January, forget 'em. We will be working almost every day in January, starting with the 4th."

you're so right. Putting more hours into your job 'never' increases effectiveness. It's always more effective to work as little as possible... best results guaranteed.

You are so correct, and then some! For example, the reason why Senators have 6 year terms is because they were never suppose to serve more than that! Working in government was suppose to be a CIVIC DUTY, not a CAREER! It was thought that once a man had been successful in his career, he'd give back to the country by holding office - ONCE.

And aren't they paid for the rest of their lives after they are done serving? :(

No one is safe when congress is in session.

Am I absolutely 100% certain of this? No, not until it actually happens. But the outlook is plenty clear, Pelosi has been pushing for a "Minority Bill of Rights" for years, and she mentioned her rules change proposals the day after the election (though I can't find the cite right now)...it addresses:* the calendar and a predictable schedule* a minimum amount of budget and office space allocated to minority committees (at least 33%)* going back to open debate (instead of the GOP way, which was to debate everything in closed committee session, then introduce it five minutes before the vote)* 24 hours minimum notice and publication to examine pending legislation before a vote * back to the standard 15 minute floor vote (as opposed to Hastert holding the floor vote open for an hour while Tom Delay badgered and blackmailed members in the cloakroom)More info here: http://democraticleader.house.gov/press/releases.cfm?pressReleaseID=622The rules are one of the first orders of business of each new Congress, and given that the 50%+1 majority decides the Rules of the House (unlike the Senate, which requires a 2/3 vote to change the rules) this should sail through.

you are getting so dugg down it will be unbelievabe.why, your message brought up the possibility that democrats are not as great as the people on digg constantly tout, and you were definatly not anti-republican enough for this crowd.

They lied about everything else, why not this?
aceg1357Dec 7, 2006
Shameless. Republicans actually think it is a good idea to go back and talk with their constituents. Dems don't have to talk with their constituents, they already know what is good for them and don't need to listen.

Ill believe it when I see it. They will still end up with August off! I wouldn't mind a month off in the summer. It must be nice.

Just what we need congress working overtime to ram more crap down our throats. Don't forget the patriot, victory, and military commissions acts. ?He said members need to spend more time in the Capitol to pass laws and oversee federal agencies ? Great more bad laws to come.
