I don't think Apple needs to worry about the G1...at least not yet, Android still needs to mature ie get more apps.I also doubt the G1 would spur Apple to do so. Their largest competitor, RIM, can tether (right?), and that didn't stop them from excluding it...twice.I think its more of a case of Apple doing what they damn well please, then pressure from competition.

Oddly enough, Windows Mobile works just fine on my Macbook Pro. But I do want an iPhone, lack of tethering and lack of Sling Player are the two things stopping me right now. Word is Sling Player is in the works, so I should be able to get an iPhone soon enough.

so buy a cd and buy the same song again on itunes.now pay for a 3g account with your iphone/itunes and pay for it again for tethering on the same device.Apple the innovative company. what is wrong with this picture? It is pure information age items (data, access) being paid for as old industrial age products (a CD is different than itunes songs of same album, tethering ( moving data through your devices) is a special service). 10 years ago if someone was to tell me that Apple would have been the worst company at this I would not have believed it.

"Soon"? Try "several weeks/months ago". Its done. You took too long, PDANet beat you to it. You'll probably make me pay more for the right to use the feature and require me to use windows and charge me by the minute. I can use the free software someone wrote to make use of my unlimited data on any OS that supports a wireless card. s**t, I could use an iPhone to provide another iPhone access. FAIL.

If they charge one penny more, it's larceny.I keep my old Treo 650 in my backpack specifically for the tethering. And, it comes with the phone, for free. Unfortunately, I fully expect them to charge simply because it's an iPhone. My only hope is that they try to include tethering at the firmware level on the phone so it can be jailbroken and distributed for free.

funny, i've been tethered since 2006... another example of apple catching up and selling it as an innovation
