The MacBook Pro still comes with "a little bit more" of everything except Hard Drive space.Eg Faster firewire, faster cpu, more L2 cache (2MB for the slower 1.86GHz CPU (the starting config for the MacBook), the 2.0, 2.16 and 2.33 all have 4MB).Perhaps the biggest difference is that a MacBook can't run the 30 inch Cinema Display. How long will it be till we see onboard graphics capable of that? Perhaps not that long...The MacBook has a longer lasting battery, but if you bump up the screen size to 15 inches I bet that advantage disappears. There's the different keyboards. Calculator style vs backlit. Whatever floats your boat. Now, the price difference between 17" and 15" is $300. Except that they have a different base hard drive sizes. The 15" has a 120, the 17" has a 160. To bump the 15" up to 160 as well costs $100. So the increase in screen size only costs $200. So if we whack $200 onto the top end MacBook (for a 15" model) we would get a price of $1699 compared to the MacBook Pro's starting price of $1999. Now contrast with the difference betwen the two 15" MacBook Pro models. The only differences there are:An extra 1GB of Ram ($175 value at Apple's pricing *cough*)An extra 128MB of Video RamAn extra 0.16 GHzWhich would _also_ be the differences between a 2.0 GHz MacBook 15" (if there were such a beast) and entry level MacBook Pro 15".If we equalize the Ram of the 15" MacBook Pros, we find that the price difference of $500 goes down to $325.So. To recap.Bumping from a 13" 2.0 GHz MacBook up to a 15" 2.16 GHz MacBook (if there were such a beast), you'd expect the price to be $1499 (of course it will be only in Black (or maybe RED?)) plus $200 for screen size bump plus $325 for the CPU and Video Card.Your theoretical 15" MacBook with the same specs as 15" MacBook Pro would therefore cost $2024. Or $25 more than the equivalent MacBook Pro (since we know the premium on the black paint is $50, we can now deduce that the premium on the silver paint is $25).On the other hand, if you just took the black 13" MacBook and made it 15" (and kept the cpu at 2.0GHz and didn't add a video card), you'd expect that model to cost $200 more, or $1699. Then, if you decided that the video card, bigger hard drive and faster cpu was worth $300 you'd prefer the MacBook Pro.In conclusion, there is no 'Pro tax'. The pricing of MacBook Pros is pretty much perfectly in line with the pricing on the MacBooks.

@irelandhave you checked the prices of unlocked cell phones recently? Even the ones that would normally be "free" (with activation and a 2 year commitment) cost at least $150 retail..and that's for the basic model that just makes calls and sends text on a T-9 keypad. That is no music, no WERTY, no camera, no MP3 playback.$600 for an unlocked iphone is not hard to imagine, especially for retail. If it were to be bundled with a 2+ year Sprint/Verizon/Tmobile contract then you might be able to get it for $200-$300 (it is a phone + ipod after all) but that's on the cheap end.

@jdc760 - "They make various peripherals including mice and the Zune."Good one!Bookmark this thread, by the way. It will be funny to look back on in 18 months when the Zune is sitting on the shelf next to Microsoft Bob, WebTV and the SPOT Watch.

The only solid confirmation that Apple is working on an iPhone was from that guy that found phone related command labels inside one of the iPod nano firmware update (v1.2)kPhoneSignalStrength, clPhoneCallHistoryModel, prPhoneSettingsMenu, prPhoneSettingsMenuView, t_feature_app_PHONE_APP...http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1888It doesn't prove that Apple will release an iPhone, but it's certainly a more concrete hint than all of these other "rumors" that Apple is at least experimenting with the idea.Note that these command labels were removed from the last iPod nano update (1.3)
