As an nove-- er, underwater basket weaver, it's honestly one of the best things you can do. I pushed it out to every workshop I was in at the undergrad level, even though Creative Writing majors are notoriously prissy, mealy-mouthed f**ks (except for me). But seriously, blowing about 50,000 pages out of your ass and getting that first novel done is completely invaluable.
