arstechnica.com — CompUSA will live on, thanks to a deal with electronics marketer Systemax. Systemax, which owns popular computer parts reseller (and CompUSA competitor) TigerDirect, announced yesterday that it has entered into an agreement to purchase the CompUSA brand, trademarks, and e-commerce business.

Systemax actually assembles their stuff & supports it here--or that's what they say, at least. I've had one of those build-to-order Systemax computers since early 2005. (I was too big of a wuss to build my own then.) It was very reasonably priced, and I haven't had a problem with it aside from it being ugly.

If tigerdirect keeps offering deals like this: http://digg.com/comedy/An_Offer_You_Can_t_Refuse_P ... then we are screwed.

I don't know why you guys don't like Tigerdirect? They have really good deals. I buy a ton of hardware for work on a regular basis and for certain thing (power supplies to name one) they have better deals than anywhere else (newegg.com included). I like this news as CompUSA had terrible pricing and I would only go in there if I was absolutely desperate for something and needed it ASAP. Maybe now CompUSA will start to carry some real PC hardware with variety.

Well I live In Flroida. I've had a lot of dealing with Tiger Direct. I hate the store on Flagger. The one in Kendal is much better. A few examples of experiences of Tiger are as such2 cpu fans didn't work and blew out CPUToday I went and brought a hard drive in the Flagger store and the guy who packs the stuff drops it in hard the bag. I had an arugment in getting another hard drive. He was real nasty. I finally got a new drive.Behind the counter you can wait an hour to get a part that you need because there is a big line and they are also the techs working on other computersNow let's stoll to the New Comp USAIn Deerfield Customer service is great. But there is no stock. I couldn't find my 80 gig drive I needed for a client. She didn't want a bigger oneIn Fort Lauderdale I went to get a refund on a 400 gig drive It didn't work. When I went the manager had to approve this. He didn't look very friendly. But get this. on the refund recipet I got the refund but at the same time it said it was off line. Having been though this experience before I knew that meant I would never get my refund. I went and attempted to talk to the manager. I was blocked by some un educated lady that said well all of our recipets come out this way it means you didn't buy it online. I said I want to talk to a manager he refused to talk to me. But I was informed now that I should get my refund in 2 billing cycles. She asured me of that. I said to myself there is no talking to these f**ken idots. So I went to my bank and had it taken care of. Welcome to systemax parent company of Comp USA and Tiger direct. At least with the old Comp USA when you got a refund it was online. Everything else about that store sucked also

I'm continually amazed at the way hardware outfits are continually dissolved and reformed. Generally, Newegg seems to be the best and most reliable site on the internet for this type of thing, but it's still nice to have some competition to spice things up. Now, if you want to buy some web software, I recommend going here: http://www.aspdotnetstorefront.com/ as opposed to trying to shop it out at e-tailers or a brick-and-mortar store
