consumerist.com — A CompUSA cashier summoned her manager and a security guard when Bud tried to pay for his purchases with cash. The promise of 40% discounts drew Bud to the Boisie, Idaho store, but he settled for a 10% discount on an iMac and several accessories.

So he should have gotten a IOU and they paid on the spot.

I think the article is BS. I've never known CompUSA to turn away money. Ever..

I had problems paying cash for a laptop last year at PC World, UK. The salesman was utterly dumbfounded and acted as though he'd never seen paper money before. "I don't think we can accept money" - Sheesh - what a dick!. How does he go on at the supermarket and corner shop I wonder?. AFAIK it's still a criminal offence to refuse to accept "coin of the realm" in the UK (obvious since such acts, like forgery, devalue the currency and clearly bankers don't like that sort of thing). With caveats of "legal tender" value restrictions. I guess now they've got credit cards and the potential for montioring all transactions we will see cash "pulled" shortly (sorry Larry). On another note he threw a complete wobbler when I refused to give them my phone number for their computer-records but I found out later they were running a "bait and switch" with a NIS product and they obviously anticpated needing to call me back and "upsell" to another product. Tsk.

Bad attitudes are prevalent at the stores. I wouldn't be happy either if my company were going out of business, but...it's still business. Cash is king. At least they are finally getting into real deals on the leftover stuff.
