West Papua was sold to Indonesia on behalf of the US corporation Bechtel Inc. who wished to build the world's largest mine, Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.'s mine at Timika. The authors account of victims in 1977 telling him of family members being locked in metal crates and dumpped in the river; are similar to newer stories of entire townships being machine gunned and the female bodies dumped at sea; or the Swiss journalist's story from Dec/2000 when he was arrested for trying to conduct journalism in West Papua.
