augustcouncil.blogspot.com— Comcast has a monopoly on cable-internet service in many cities around the USA. And they use this to their dastardly advantage by basically treating their customers like trash.

@turkoftheplains: Please re-read my comment then read what you just wrote. I'm not saying they offer two different products based on communication or technology. DirectTV offers multiple broadcast television stations.. Comcast offers multiple broadcast television stations. Two companies, residing in the same geographical areas are both providing the same service. THAT fact negates the existance of a monopoly on broadcast television stations for that area.@thebellmaster1x: comcast offers internet, television and in some areas, phone service. dish companies offer television. ISPs offer other broadband options and telcos offer, well... phone. I thought I made it pretty clear that as long as another company offers a similar service or product in the area of another, the monopoly is negated.@gyrflacon: Uh, yes, it does actually. If you are suggesting that in the television market that Dish Network, DirecTV and any number of other satellite companies are not competition then you might be correct....but that's far from the truth. If you are suggesting AOL, NetZero, Earthlink, ATT, et al are not competition for the internet market then you might be correct... but again, false. To answer your question, Microsoft is not a monopoly, though they were found to be attempting monopolization, but Apple, Sun and Linux had nothing to do with it because it dealt with browsers, NOT operating systems.I want to reiterate (not that anyone is still reading this), I think our blogger's complaints are certainly grounded and this happens to a lot of people across the board: Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, DirecTV, Dish, etc etc etc. But using a hot buzzword like 'monopoly' shows ignorance. I've got no stake in any of these companies. Hell, I've never even lived in a Comcast area, and there's no excuse for poor customer service. I'm just saying look..and understand...before you leap. Just cuz a word has more syllables doesn't mean its the right word to use.
I used to be as pissed off as the complainers on this board. Wake up! Monopoly providers have no incentive for change. Free market competition insures that the consumer receives value and is treated with respect. See what I mean by visiting Comcastyousuck.com. The domain itself will put a smile on your face. And the deal can't be beat!
