It's like the FCC and censorship, "self-regulation" is so much more effective when you hold absolute power. If you publish a guideline, people will go up to the guideline. Tell them to "behave" and you can get a whole lot more out of them

I hate to spam/plug this here but..."Speak for yourself. Cox has limited my bit torrent speed to 1-3KB/s. And people are beginning to notice that video downloads from certain legal video sites are getting slowed down too. I'm thinking Cox doesn't like their own internet service competing with their cable service."This is EXACTLY why we NEED Net Neutrality. This lack of competition among broadband providers is leading to s**tty service, lower speeds, higher prices, absurb limitations and anti-competitive behaviors. You can read more about it and find out what you can do here: http://www.savetheinternet.com/Sorry for that, but I really feel that we need to step up and get this put into law.

Yes, T1's are relatively slow compared to downloading with cable now, but try uploading from a s**tty cable modem like a T1 does. The benefit of a T1 is its ~1.5MB BOTH WAYS, not just DOWN you noobs. So you Up at 40KB on your cable modem and they UP at ~1.5MB.

As far as Comcast goes, their policy appears to be a moving target for a VALID reason. In some areas, downloading 200GB doesn't mean much because no one else is affected by this downloading spree. In my area, when someone decided to BT all day and night, then during peak hours speeds are horrible. So excuse me, if they don't take measures at all, then everyone in the area is screwed. And if they do, then they are still damned. Comcast is not known for screwing over that many people. As far as customer service, I've never had a problem. Eventually I had to switch to their business service because we were running a server and needed upload speeds that were at least bearable, but before then, no problem. So to all those of you griping about Comcast, pick your poison.

Kill the caps and demand that backbone ISPS do BETTER in the wholesale bandwidth costs, for some reason, it's quite possible that bandwidth costs MORE in the RURAL and west coast parts of the country than compared with the MEGA bandwidth cornerstones GEMs such as the northeast. Vast underinvestment in bandwidth leads to higher prices, less competition leads to higher prices, greedy last mile companies leads to higher prices.

How does Comcast really know that the usage numbers are correct? What if some glitch in your cable modem resulted in outlandishly high usage numbers that were not real? Where is the independent verification? We have been shut off with no written warning or any final notice and do not believe that we were using anywhere near what they implied we were using (half a terabyte per month). The magnitude of the numbers they claim we used seem to be more than we really could have used given the speed of the connection. Now that they shut us off, we are currently on dial-up and frankly we are not doing anything different than before in surfing the web and the dial-up is meeting our needs albeit slowly. So we don’t see how we could have been at 15 Gig a day and now be at 15 Meg a day and the only difference is about three times as long to get a page. What if the Comcast’s claimed numbers are wrong? By the way here is a link to the ad that was on the Comcast site that does say unlimited. This is what they were offering when we ordered our UNLIMITED Comcast and I've never seen anything changing this:http://web.archive.org/web/20020123110542/http://comcast.com/

Yeah that is very true unfortunately most companies have an in affect a monopoly because they have already developed infrastructure that is expensive to build. A few years ago my town invested in a company to create competition for cable TV (same basic infrastructure as internet) but the costs were still to high to lay cables, junctions etc. they would have been able to control the market easily in our area but they just couldn't afford the initial cost. Each ISP have their own areas they have dominance in so there is essentially zero competition anywhere. What needs to happen is a major company that already has an enormous power needs to go telecom. I'd suggest Microsoft if it wasn't for the fact that they would be no better if not worse than the current ISPs but somebody with that much power.

Comcast can go f**k themselves. They have no idea how to communicate within their company, and nearly everyone that works there is an idiot. I have had signal problems on my internet connection for months now, and everytime I call they give me a different answer. One person told me they have to install and amp outside in the closet, and yet another told me that the drop box is screwed up and they need to replace it. Comcast is seriously retarded, and it's gonna be hilarious when they start to lose money because of fios. I cannot wait until they need to sell their precious newly built skyscraper in Philadelphia to cover their bankruptcy. You hear that Mr. Roberts, you crooked piece of s**t. I can't wait until your crooked ass company goes belly up. You run a disgustingly incompetent company, and you deserve to go out of business you f**king assh**e. All of the bulls**t that has been dished out by Comcast customer support is going to be spit right back into your uncooperative, selfish, money grabbing face. If I could, I'd make it my personal mission to see you rot in hell, but I'm not like you. I will never sink that low. You will get what's coming to you Brain, oh you will. f**k Comcast!http://www.dpodgor.net

Not to step on toes here. But I used to live in TX and the area I was in ONLY allowed Charter in my area. Then they were bought out by Time Warner. The upload was crap at around 30 KB / sec. And the download was only around 300 KB / sec. Now, I recently moved to CA and When I got comcast I was extremely happy. I can download at 25,000 (average) kilobits (around 3.1 Meg / sec.)and the upload is around 1500 Kilobits / sec (187 KB / sec). Now I have tested the different speeds and have never got a cutoff letter. But what I do know is this, there are bad apples in EVERY ISP provider around the world. Some envy others bandwidth because of their location. So if your torrenting, then yea, I can agree that you might want to pull it back a bit so that comcast wont shut you off. Also, think of those in other countries who have to pay by the minute or megs. I feel for those people.

500 Gig? Good grief. What was that woman downloading? 100 times the national average? I don't blame comcast.http://www.mysteryautoincome.com
