treehugger.com — Scientists at MIT are studying color-changing cuttlefish, and with an understanding of how these fascinating creatures (see the 3 videos below) can change color in less than a second, they're building electronic-ink and TV screens that could "use less than one-hundredth the power of traditional television screens" yet be cheap, easy and safe

can't wait for a highly efficient computer monitor with a "less than second response time"

And your parakeet can keep his beak sharp on the display when there's nothing on.

Interesting research, but useless for displays. We already have LCDs that consumes considerably less power compared to TVs and are more or less as fast - faster than "less than a second" switching anyway. What we need is cheap and easy to construct LCDs that allow for a greater range of color and truer blacks, which is available right now but at extremely cost prohibitive prices. If cuttlefish skin can help in that regard, then great, else this is worthless. The only reasonable application of this technology is camouflage for troops in the field.

These are like cats of the sea where dolphins are dogs.
