In my discussions with co-workers, most users set their laptops into sleep mode to avoid lengthy windows start-ups when they get home. This problem could be easily avoided. Owned: Taken right from the website FAQ, "The best software-only solution would be to encrypt the disk key with a password whenever the computer enters an inactive state, so that it will not be useful to an attacker even if it is copied from RAM." Nerds/EL3t3 H4X0rs: I know this does not stop the attack on running machines, but if you're dumb enough to leave the machine running and physically unprotected, your an idiot.

There is a simple way to defeat this. Set your BIOS to do a full memory check. It will overwrite every byte of memory. It is often impossible to skip/interrupt and can only be disabled by entering the BIOS after it has already run.
