politicalwire.com — Bill Clinton, in an interview on Bloomberg Television, about the Republican strategy for the midterm elections said:"They rediscover bin Laden every two years right before the election. If you had a business strategy that worked all the time that was premised on scaring the living daylights out of people, you just keep doing it"

mre:>Caprica: I have no idea why you are being digg'ed down. While the premise ofClinton's comments is absurd (the GOP tells Bin Laden when to issue oneof his tapes)That is not what Clinton was saying. Look at the recent Bush speech, where he mentioned Osama 17 times, after not mentioning him at all for months. Bush ignores Osama, until before the elections or when he needs a poll bounce, then suddenly it's Osama Osama Osama Osama...Today, Osama has died for the third time (First Osama "died" during a missile strike, then kidney failure, now he's "died" again...) That kind of thing is very helpful to remind people of Osama when Bush needs it. It's fear mongering done on-call.

That quote is absolutely true, but it can be said for either party. As for Clinton, there is no disputing his competency as a leader. While he's made some decidedly stupid choices, he has the highest IQ of any president. You don't have to agree with his views to agree that he's a generally smart guy.

The problem with your comment below, zeptillian, is not that he "tried"..its that he did a half ass job of it...In the PC world of the Dems, he could not take the required action lest he upset his base...That is why he failed...he took the absolute minimum action required so he could say "I tried"..he also missed several other opportunities that GH Bush in "the nine months" Clinton is so fixated upon, never had...I do, however, admire his honesty in admitting he failed...

Teddy Roosevelt would laugh at how "smart" Slick Willy is. So would Thomas Jefferson. More to the point, Teddy Roosevelt would probably beat Slick Willy senseless for being leader of the Free World and not being able to keep it in his pants. At least with Kennedy it was Marilyn Monroe, and no one can fault him for that....I agree with the last person who said it - let's put Perot in office. Sure, we'll have another dollar tax put onto gas, but at least we know it'll go towards coming up with an alternative for gas, be it mass transit or alternative fuels.
