torrentfreak.com — China is not new to censoring the Internet, but up until now, BitTorrent sites have never been blocked. Recently however, several reports came in from China, indicating that popular BitTorrent sites such as Mininova, isoHunt and The Pirate Bay had been hijacked. The sites became inaccessible, instead redirecting to the leading Chinese search engine

Not really because we aren't slaughtering them anymore. We already did it and then reached a point where we realized it was wrong. We definitely haven't made many concessions and nothing can take back the fact we practically exterminated them, but we don't kill them anymore and we do allow them to form their own "nations" That's all Tibet wants is independence.

You can't eat freedom. But of course in your country they'll never let you eat your words, Mr. Freedom-or-Death.Unless you live life as an eternal bum, refusing the opportunity to trade your natural freedom for food or shelter or money, I'm going to have to call bulls**t on your words. In the rare case that you do value freedom so highly that you are dying for it, then I have no criticism for you.

Don't make me laugh so hard. If the native Indians say that they want 50% of the US back and independence they would get it? There would be US troops there the minute any of them declared independence from the US.

This is for economic reason. These sites are a threat for some Chinese torrents sites or to Xunlei. Almost every single person I know in China uses Xunlei to download movies and music. Xunlei is so user friendly that most of its users don't even know they are using Bit Torrent, emule and http -xunlei does all of them and it integrates a search function. Sadly it only runs on Windows (supposedly runs on wine)I'm quite sure that someone greased the right person in Beijing and now foreign torrent site are no longer a competition. If you look for downloading on baidu you will only get Chinese sites

The Chinese people have overthrown thier governments many more times than any other nations. Lacking of guts is not the reason for the Chinese to endorse the current administration. Military defeats and foreign occupation for the last 100 years made the Chinese value thier national unity and stability more than anything else. For the Chinese, Iraq and some other countries are the living examples of trading a stable autocrat for an bloody democracy, and Taiwan is an example of trading a thriving dictation for a chaotic dual-party system.

China's control of all forms of communication continues to expand in order to keep their people under control. Then theres the attack of other nations in order to keep them in power. They will only keep pushing the envelope in all facets of the WWW through internal control as mentioned by the article and external intrusion such as attacking US govt sites.

Ortheos, It's a trial only and a pipe dream at that, and some ISP's have already stated they have no intention of using this system or forcing it upon us. If you're with telstra though, what can i say, tough luck buddy. It's still not even passed yet by the government so don't get so paranoid so soon. The media has been over hyping this and of course the bitching brigade will make you think "kev the commie" will make this happen asap.
