Like others posted, using sticks is not new for chimps, sticking prey is what's new. One interesting observation from the article is that the chimp males didn't pick up new tricks when they get older! The young learned from mom and each other and created a new chimp culture! Reminds me of something I read in Kuhn's "Structure of Scientific Revolutions" about how the older generation has to die for a new scientific paradigm to be accepted! Also makes me think about how mothers grieve on their child's first day of school...
