physorg.com— A 15-year-old boy born from anonymously-donated sperm used an online DNA-testing service and the Internet to track down his genetic father, a feat which suggests that promises of donor secrecy are worthless.

That is scary. The "dad" had nothing to do with this kid or his mother. He was probably just a guy down on his luck and needed a quick 50 bucks. If you donate blood and it saves a kids life is he going to ask for child support? The guy should have no moral or legal obligation to this kid.
"After nine months, he was contacted by two men whose Y chromosomes closely matched his own.""Although his donor had been anonymous, the boy's mother had been told the man's date and place of birth and his college degree."Wow, must've been tough to find him with no information at all.
I'd donate if there was a place that would accept the donation without requiring a jab in the arm for blood. Cheapskate clinics...they test the semen for diseases anyways.Granted, you'd want to donate in cities you didn't live in...hopefully nullifying the chance of any offspring accidentally hooking up with each other.
If I ever found a kid who traced my genetics to me I would, laugh, call the kid a moron, and then tell him to leave me alone. Why would he have the idea that I would even care? So his mom used my sperm, big whoop, now I'm suposed to change my life because of that, right...Sure, its cold, but if you donated the sperm anonymously, this is exactly what you dont want to happen.no kudos to the kid, no digg...
> The whole system is immorally flawed anyway. You're an idiot. Sperm donation is the most egalitarian thing to happen to procreation since asexual reproduction became passe' among multicelluar organisms.> Why would you want to find out that your biological dad is someone So you can farm him for stem cells and vital organs... not to mention the back child support he owes.> guy finds out that he's a dad and that the lady wants child > support, he loses the case in court and now pays for child > support. The flip side to the above is that you donate gleefully and often. If anyone hits you up for child support, you just let them know that if they push the matter, you'll have you're DNA sequenced and release it for publication on the internet, including the where and when particulars of you're busy donation history. After you explain to them that they'll be standing in line with 500 other offspring for their child support and I think they'll realize that it's probably not worth the lawyer fees.> that guy was only going in to get a quick 50 bucksDo you know your personal weekly sperm donation limit? How many fertility clinic are within a 50 radius of where you live? I think that a professional donater could probably make their rent if they went about it in an organized way.
