chicagotribune.com — Chicago is getting proposals to join San Francisco and other cities in providing city-wide wi-fi access. No distinct companies are named as of yet (sorry Google). Another big city with free access. How long before the entire country gets there?

In response to shrewd....But healthcare in Canada and Australia suck. There are as many Cat scan machines in the entire country of Canada as exist in the state of Indiana- that kinda sucks. There is a good reason Canadians flee across the boarder to have treatment in the United States. The medicine in the US is not as available to the poor, but it is better. I'd take the better medicine any day over mediocre care provided by welfare states. If I need a transplant, I am not going to wait 2 years and maybe die before I get it. People need to realize that healthcare is not a basic human right- it along with many other things in life need to be earned. If you can afford a 50 inch tv, there is no reason you can't afford medical treatment. Usually it comes down to a matter of priorities- and the people who take healthcare for granted certainly will get screwed. The other bad thing about socialized medicine is that personal health decisions become state decisions- Example: If you need dialysis in England and you are past a ceratin age, they will let you die rather than provide it. There are many downsides to socialized medicine. Socialized medicine is great if: 1)You have no $ 2)You have no job3)You are not actually sick or need minor treatmentThe real US solution to healthcare:1)Requirement for all employers to provide affordable healthcare options2)Give tax incentives to drs who treat the poor3)Create nontaxable heathcare savings plans for all citizensWe do not need more huge agencies to waste our tax $ and provide lesser care options or worse quality care. Do you really trust a buch of politicians to know what the best health care is for you? Think about it realistically...

geez...I know that its common place for everyone to take pot shots at the USA for any little thing. But if you guys are going to argue back and forth about it, at least keep it on topic. This isn't about socialized healthcare, its about wifi access in chicago

I always thought, once they get nation wide wi-fi, won't it eventually evolve into a cell-phone like service? monthy fee? of course they would have to develop new technology, and you would have to 'activate' your wireless modem :)

Even in Jerusalem it's already happening. This isn't going to fade away.
