The argument would be that having more minorities officers in their respective neighborhoods would create a better community law enforcement image. I am all for that. Lets be honest, more crime tends to happen in this communities (not because of their skin color but because of economic reasons). It helps if they trust the police, if these are the same people they attend religious services with, coaches on sports teams, and is known in the community. It takes a lot for people to trust cops, and being "one of your own" certainly does a lot to help with that issue. It sucks that not enough people are qualified to fill this roll but I am not totally against approaches like helping these potential officers become qualified. I agree about personal responsibility and I want everyone to meet the same standards. I do feel Chicago maybe trying to screw everybody by doing this but overall getting more minority officers is not such a terrible idea.
