emptywheel.firedoglake.com — Marcy earlier noted the article in today's Washington Post by Peter Finn and Joby Warrick detailing the story surrounding abu-Zubaydah's capture and torture. I want to pick up with Marcy's last line: "Yet more reason they destroyed the torture tapes showing Abu Zubaydah's interrogation." Well, yes, because it was crystal clear at the outset ...

Destroy the evidence on your way out the door! That's great.

Tapes? You've got to be kidding me. Is that really the media government torture criminals actually use to record such crucial confessions and important data on? In this modern technological age of digital vibrators, remote control toasters and wireless Internet from a calculator. With all of the countless digital methods available that are more reliable and less prone to disaster and becoming "lost", they resort to cheesy tapes instead? That makes no sense. Then again, this is the government we're talking here.Yeah, they're obviously concerned about preservation of these torture confessionals! Not.Cheney should just issue an official public statement saying his wife's dog ate the tapes. Short attention span Americans won't care one way or another. Much less question it anyway. So what does it matter? The situation will blow over in less than a week. Everybody will forget about it and it's on to resuming the usual Lindsey Lohan DUI updates and reporting Oprah Winfreys latest weight gain. Hell, just say Rumsfeld took the tapes on a camping trip for entertainment to listen to out in the wilderness when Bigfoot suddenly appeared at the campsite and ran off with them into a lake instead. Make it something more believable than the current coverup marketing job, at least.

It's OK to worry about both.

Hate to break it to you but the world isn't black and white. Reality is various shades of grey and in some cases the ends do justify the means. History is filled with them.

Wow, you guys are way out in left field, are you even watching what the present president is doing? He wants control of the internet, where's the outrage? I live in the New York area and I want the terrorist tortured in any way, shape of form. Let them eat s**t for all I care! I know someone who works for NSA and compared to other countries we're tame when it comes to getting information. I can't wait until this present administration is out and I want investigation of the entire administration,PERIOD!
